I was so apprehensive about leaving Pickett with anyone as he is older and has arthritis, not to mention he is quite spoiled. I had visited several other kennels with no success, before finding yours through the internet. Your quick email response showed me that you are all about dogs and meeting their needs and their owner’s needs.

You were so gracious to allow us to visit prior to actually coming to board. Even though your facility is located 40 minutes from our home I would have driven double or triple that time because of the wonderful care they received.

Gabby is our son’s dog while she is young and playful I had many concerns about the two being separated – you were quick to suggest the family kennel which allowed them to be together, but you monitored their needs to play separately as well. You were always willing to give me a phone update when I called.

I just can’t thank you enough from the loving individualized care to the close monitoring of medications to the reassuring phone calls that all was well with our dogs. I am spreading the word among my dog loving friends about your services. We plan to return when the need to travel arises and we are quite thankful we have found you!

Sincerely
Cynthia and Keith Tobin
Thomasville, N.C.

The Fosters - Ichiban & Yahnna

Martha & Chuck,

Here is Ichiban and the newest member to our family, Yahnna (Great Dane). I just wanted you to see her as we have not needed to send our dogs to "camp" since we rescued Yahnna from the animal shelter. You obviously will get to meet her since Country Kennel is the only place we feel safe leaving our dogs. I just cant tell you how much we appreciate the care and attention you and your staff show to our animals. As you know we had more than one bad experience boarding Ichiban prior to being told about you guys at Country Kennel.

Before meeting you guys I really hated leaving her anywhere, whenever we would return to pick her up she would be lethargic and just not herself for a day or two after we got her home and at one point we picked her up and she had a fairly bad cut across her nose that no one at the kennel could explain. Thank the Lord for you guys, now whenever we return from a trip and pick her up, she is as happy and full of energy as the day we dropped her off. I am certain that Yahanna will be just as happy with you guys as Ichiban always is. So a big thank you from the Foster family to you and your staff. As far as we are concerned, there is Country Kennel and then there is everyone else. Please keep up the good work.

Your very happy customer,
Tim Foster

Long HOT Summer

Here are our dogs, Grover, Grady and Gussie as they patiently wait for our return from the kennel. My dogs thoroughly enjoy their stay with you.....and how do I "know" that since my dogs can't talk?! Well, it is so obvious by how clean they are when I come to pick them up and the calm and happy demeanor they present. As we leave they are not jet propelled to the door like they have been when leaving other boarding facilities because they are looking over their shoulder to say goodbye to their wonderful caretakers. When we get home they are not hyper, because they have been properly exercised and received the attention they are used to. We used to board her at her Vet’s office until I happened to find you guys on the web. We live in High Point and were initially concerned about the relatively long drive to your location, but your very reasonable rates and the services you provided, without add-on costs, made it worth a try.

Let me tell you, I’m glad we didn’t let the distance stop us from bringing Luna to Country Kennel! I could tell from the moment we drove up that this was the best place for her. I was even happier when we arrived to pick her up. She was clean, happy and showed no signs of distress. If we could take her with us everywhere we went, we probably would. But, since we’ve found you guys, we realize that we all need a vacation - and that’s exactly what Luna gets when we leave her at Country Kennel. Plus, we can vacation guilt-free too! The ride may be a little long, but it’s worth every single minute for the peace of mind we get knowing that she’s in the best possible care while we’re away.

So, thank you, thank you, thank you! We checked out several other places and none of them even come close to the quality care standards that Country Kennel maintains. The kennel is modern and soooo clean. The staff is friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive to each dogs’ needs. They are totally there for dog care and not trying to sell you stuff like an extra charge for the dogs to play. My name is Porter, and I am a miniature goldendoodle. I am 1 ½ years old and I love to run around, play fetch, and snuggle. I have been going to visit Martha and Chuck at Country Kennel since I was just a tiny puppy. My owners had to go out of town when I was just 5 months old. I was so little and only weighed about 9 pounds. My “Mommy” was so worried about having to leave me with anyone. The minute she met Martha and Chuck, she knew she had found me a home away from home. Martha and Chuck have treated me like one of their own and my owners have been overwhelmed by the care and love that I receive when I am visiting. That is why they will ONLY let me board at Country Kennel. They say that Martha and Chuck are like family. I think that is why ‘Mommy” always says that we are going to visit Aunt Martha and Uncle Chuck. I get so excited when I see the kennel! “Mommy” can’t seem to drive fast enough to get me there. I jump out of the car right away and run to the front door. I can’t even wait to get a leash on! Martha is always waiting with a smile and a huge hug for me. I love playing with all my friends at the kennel and it has been great for my socialization skills. I am always happy to see my owners when they come for me, but I really do miss my second family at Country Kennel. It truly is like my home away from home.

Our friends - Chelsea and Callie

Chelsea will be 15 on June 24. I love to go to Country Kennel because I get to play with all of these other dogs and I always love when Chuck plays fetch with me because he was the one who taught me how to play. When I am there I don’t have to worry about having to wait to go to the bush because I am always outside playing. Whenever I go there, when we get close my mommy always asks “ Mojo do you want to go see Martha and Chuck?” and I always answer with a fast body and tail wagging. (Have I mentioned how much I love Country Kennel? I think I need to emphasize it a little more….. I LOVE COUNTRY KENNEL! I think that’s better.) Whenever you go to Country Kennel give me a holler because I am always up for a new fetch partner. (And new friends who love to play around.)

P.S. I'm getting too old to run with the pack, but I love going to the kennel to see everybody. I mostly hangout with the people and watch the other dogs. We've been trying for a long time to finalize a plan and build a better kennel. We've done a lot of research, and now we are ready.

The new play yards are done. They are large, and the grass is established. We started using them during the December 2006 holidays. The dogs love them....new smells, new sights, new territory, oh boy!!

The new septic system is in. We had to do that first so we can stay open while the construction is going on. Things look a little strange, and it might be tricky, but for now the kennel routine is the same.

Soon, we will start building! We will have 44 indoor/outdoor runs. They will be larger than the current ones. We will also have "family suites". These are double sized for large families or large dogs. The runs will also have solid partitions to cut down on noise and fence aggression. We will have an indoor playroom for rainy days too.

Hopefully, eventually, we will sell good-quality dogfood. Those of you who know me know I'm on a mission to learn more about canine nutrition and to spread the word.

Keep in touch -- Martha

Dog of the Month - Rusty

Rusty, our 5 year old Airedale, has been staying at Country Kennel since he was a one year old. We had been searching for a good place to board him after several stressful boarding experiences where Rusty would not eat or sleep due to separation anxiety. Our priority was to find a clean, safe, caring environment where he could socialize with people and dogs. A friend suggested Country Kennel and it has been Rusty’s home away from home ever since. Martha and Chuck make a point to understand his specific personality and needs as well as to engage in a wonderful relationship with him and us. When I put Rusty’s favorite food container in the car he excitedly jumps in as he knows he is headed to Country Kennel. As we pull in the long drive up to the kennel he starts bouncing around and hangs his head out the car window eagerly looking for all his friends. Country Kennel has a super group of repeat guests, many of whom have become Rusty’s favorite playmates. We have been given great peace of mind knowing how loved and well cared for he is at Country Kennel. Martha and Chuck accommodate any need he has whether it involves an emergency veterinary visit, administering a special diet and allergy medications, providing soothing oatmeal baths or simply taking time for that belly rub and sweet talking he loves so much.

Cherie Holderness

Dogs of the Month - Dipstick & Roxie

We have two Jack Russell "terrorists" named Dipstick and Roxie. Dipstick has been going to Country Kennel since he was a puppy. He loves to get a toy in his mouth and play "keep away". The country setting and having other dogs to entice into his game gives him great joy. Roxie has a sweet face and personality but can be quite mischievous when she takes a notion. She, too, has been going to Country Kennel since she was a puppy. Needless to say our dogs have high energy levels and require quite a bit of patience and understanding. Both the owners and staff treat them with love and respect. Our dogs are always excited to visit Martha and Chuck and all of the canine friends they have made over the years.

We would highly recommend Country Kennel for both the socialization skills with other dogs and the interaction with the staff. They take a great deal of time to play with the dogs and always provide an update when we pick them up.

Lynn Garner

Dog of the month - Harley

Harley, our 61/2 year old Bullmastiff, gets to vacation at Country Kennel with Martha and her staff when we go out of town. We have trusted Country Kennel for many years and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to board their furry friend(s). Harley has always been given great care and likes to play with his little buddies during his stay. We have never had to worry about him while we were away. You will not find a cleaner and nicer place to board your dog. Much thanks to Country Kennel for such good care.

Blake & Cindy

Dog of the Month - Chelsea

Hi, my name is Chelsea Shell. I want to spread the word about Country Kennel. Man, is it FUN!! My Mom and Dad first took me to Country Kennel when I was only a little, tiny puppy. I am 3 years old now. Many times I stay for as long as 1-2 weeks. My Mom says it's like going to camp. I get to play with Martha and Chuck. They run the camp and boy are they neat!!! I am also VERY good friends with their pups-The Three Amigos. Each time I visit,I make new friends and get to play with them each day. My Mom can see how happy I am each time I come visit and I have never wanted to try another camp. I know you will love Country Kennel as much as I do!!! (Maybe we could even play together.)

Dogs of the Month - Three Amigos

"Our Children" Spring 2006
Gussie, Grady, and Grover

Gussie May is a rescue. She is a terrier mix about 8 years old, weighs 25 lbs and leads our pack. We adopted her from a local group when she was 3ish. There is nothing she likes better than a belly rub!

Grady Boy is a rescue that we fostered. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old. Now he’s 4 and weighs 50 lbs. He’s a talker. When he sees us coming home from the kennel, he let's out a wooooo-wooooo!

Groovy Grover was rescued from an awful shelter in Virginia. This shelter does NOT specialize in adoptions. He was on death row after just a few days. He is a scruffy terrier mix, my favorite. We got him at around 16 weeks of age. Now he is almost 1 ½. He’s the happiest dog we have ever known. Maybe something to do with his shelter time - who knows? He loves everybody and everything, except maybe the bathtub!!
